quiz Frequently asked questions about WiFi QR codes
Yes. Since iOS 11, the iPhone Camera app automatically recognises WiFi QR format and shows a notification to join the network. No additional app needed.
Yes. The password is encoded directly in the QR code using the standard WIFI: format. It is not sent to any server. Only people with physical access to the QR will be able to see or use that credential.
The standard WiFi QR format supports WPA/WPA2 (the most common security type) and WEP. For WPA3, select WPA/WPA2 — most WPA3 routers accept this parameter in the QR.
Yes. Enable the "Hidden network" option when generating the code. The format will include the H:true parameter so the device can find and connect to networks that do not broadcast their SSID.
You will need to generate a new QR code with the new password. Static QR codes encode the key at creation time — they do not update automatically. Save the generator in your favourites to quickly regenerate the QR when you change the password.
